About the school
A school built by Qari Muhammad Naveed Raja.
Ummul Qura is the name given to Makkah in the Quran, the Mother of Cities. The school carries the name in hope of barakah, and as a reminder of where the Quran was first recited.
It was founded in 2019 by Qari Muhammad Naveed Raja, who has been teaching the Quran for 25 years. He memorised the whole Quran at Al Jamia tul Hussainia and was examined by Wifaq ul Madaris al-Arabia Pakistan, the country’s largest board of Islamic schools. He passed with Mumtaz, its highest grade. His certificate is further down this page.
Every class is one student and one teacher. Your child gets the teacher’s full attention for the whole lesson, and moves at their own pace.
The school teaches from Pakistan to families around the world. 178 students learn here today, in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Norway, Germany and the UAE. Some are young children starting their first Qaida. Others are adults improving their recitation.

Qari Muhammad Naveed Raja memorised the Holy Quran at Al Jamia tul Hussainia and was examined by Wifaq ul Madaris al-Arabia Pakistan, the national board of Islamic schools, in 2002. He passed with the grade Mumtaz, the highest it gives. The school’s teaching stands on what its founder himself was tested on.

From four short verses to Surah Al-Mulk
When this student joined, he could not read the Holy Quran at all. That is where almost every child starts. He learned it letter by letter, one to one with his teacher, the same way every course on this page runs. The first recording is him early on, reciting four short verses. The second is him now, reciting Surah Al-Mulk from memory. His parents never had to be told he was getting better. Ma sha Allah, they could hear it.

Six of the twenty eight letters are made in the throat, at three different depths. Getting these wrong is the most common fault in an adult’s recitation, and it is what the first lessons work on.

There are more than six thousand verses in the Quran and no honest teacher will call this easy. It is done a little at a time, with revision built into every lesson, which is the only way it holds.

School subjects
Grade 1 to 12, coached online
The school teaches the ordinary school syllabus too, one student and one teacher, the same way the Quran classes run. Coaching is available from grade 1 right through to grade 12.
Mathematics
Taught one to one, at the pace your child actually needs, from the early years up to grade 12.
Physics
The teacher finds where a student is actually weak and works on that, rather than teaching the whole syllabus again at the same speed. The course outline is covered in full.
Chemistry
When a test shows a gap, the teacher goes back and teaches it again rather than moving on. Short tests at regular intervals, so a weak spot never shows up for the first time in the exam.
English
English is the language of most of the internet, most business and most schooling today. The classes work on real understanding, not memorised answers.
Urdu
Reading and writing Urdu, over 250 of the most useful words, everyday phrases, how to greet people formally and casually, correct pronunciation, and the grammar underneath it.
Islamiyat
The school syllabus subject, taught one to one, by teachers who studied the Islamic sciences properly.

How it works
Starting is simple
- Message us. Tell us who the class is for and what you want to learn.
- Pick your time. Classes run around your schedule, in your time zone.
- Take the free three day trial. Real lessons, and it works both ways: you sit in and judge the teacher, and the teacher listens to your child and tells you honestly where they should start. You stay welcome in every lesson after it too.
- Begin. If it feels right, classes start properly. With Allah’s help, one lesson at a time.

Every letter is heard
The teacher hears every letter of every lesson, and corrects it while it is still easy to correct.
Nobody is rushed, nobody waits
Your child sets the pace. Nothing is skipped to keep up with a class, and nothing already learned is sat through again.
A female teacher for your daughter
She teaches the girls and the sisters here. The choice is yours, so tell us when you message and your daughter is placed with her.
One school, one standard
The school belongs to the teacher who founded it, and his staff runs it. The founder answers your questions himself.

Is this safe for my child?
You are welcome to sit in on any lesson, not only the first. No notice needed, no reason needed.
If anything ever worries you, speak to Muhammad, the principal, who runs the school day to day. Both numbers at the bottom of this page are his, and he answers them himself.
What age can my child start?
Children usually start between 4 and 6, but there is no fixed rule. The easiest way to know is to let the teacher listen to your child once.
What does it cost?
There is no single fixed price. It depends on how many lessons a week you want, and it is settled with you directly when you get in touch. Message us and we will tell you plainly. The first three days are free, so you can sit in the lessons and meet the teacher before any of that comes up.
How long is a class?
30 minutes, with the teacher’s full attention. Times are arranged around your schedule and your time zone.
What do we need for classes?
A phone, tablet, or computer with internet. Classes run on Zoom, Microsoft Teams or WhatsApp, whichever suits you, so there is nothing unusual to install. The teacher handles the rest.
Can adults join?
Yes. Adults join too, to learn reading, fix their Tajweed, or memorise. It is never too late.
Can we ask a religious question?
Yes. Message us on WhatsApp and one of the teachers will answer, in sha Allah. The teachers here have studied the Islamic sciences properly, and their training is listed further up this page.
If a question needs a proper ruling rather than a quick answer, they will tell you that plainly instead of guessing.
